Frequently a new user needs to be added to existing Chrome accounts so students can access their GCPS Google Classroom. Use the directions below to help guide you through this process.

In order for mobile devices to work properly in G Suite for Education & Google Classroom, various free Google apps should be downloaded. 

These apps include:

• Google Drive
• Google Docs
• Google Slides
• Google Sheets
• Google Classroom
• Chrome (optional depending on the device being used)

Once you have downloaded these apps, use the directions below to guide you through connecting to your child's GCPS Google account.

Google Workspace for Education provides you with a powerful set of online tools designed to help you learn, create, and collaborate. This suite includes familiar apps like Google Drive, Google Classroom, Google Docs, and YouTube.

When using Google Workspace for Education, please make sure to sign out of all other personal accounts.

Directions

IMPORTANT - You must connect to your home WiFi network FIRST before logging in. (Note - If the Portal is down, students will not be able to log into the school Chromebook until the site is up & running again.)

Setting Up School Chromebooks: ENGLISH - SPANISH

If the Chromebook is asking for a student email address, then one of the following three things is happening:

1. The Chromebook has not been connected to your home WiFi. This step must be done first.

2. The person attempting to log into the Chromebook is clicking the "Sign in with a different account" link that is on the first opening page of the Chromebook. If this happens, it will prompt for an email address. Instead, please click the blue button in the bottom right corner and from there it will go to the Student Portal login screen. Students will log into the Portal with their username and password.

3. If the GCPS Portal system is slow or down, it will redirect you to a Google login screen rather than the GCPS Student Portal login screen. In this case, there is nothing we can do but wait for the GCPS site to come back online.

Per the Handbook Information for Students and Families, if a GCPS technology resource is assigned to a student and taken home, it is the parent's responsibility to monitor the use of the device to ensure the student is following the Student Conduct Behavior Code and to ensure that the device is returned in the condition in which it was received. When using GCPS technology or network access, students are expected to follow the Student Conduct Behavior Code, including respecting others' privacy. Online student accounts to be used for legitimate educational purposes will be subject to monitoring and review, including review of text and attachments that are related to that student or students. At NO TIME should a student consider GCPS email, networked applications, or account or technology access private or confidential in any way.

While the school district does maintain Internet filters, there may be times when a student may accidentally or purposefully discover inappropriate materials online. Gwinnett County Public Schools DOES NOT CONDONE the use of such materials. Inappropriate use of any GCPS technology resource or network access is a violation of the Student Conduct Behavior Code.
